Public Strategies Adopts OKC’s Edwards Elementary
Book Drive Launched to Support School Library
Oklahoma City, November 30, 2009 - Mary Myrick, founder and President of Public Strategies, today announced the launch of a company-sponsored book drive to support Oklahoma City’s Edwards Elementary School.
The Edwards Elementary School book drive began today with Public Strategies’ employees gathering new and gently used books from home and inviting friends, family and colleagues to donate as well.
“Although vintage books are often treasured, the children at Edwards need books that are not tattered, torn or missing pages,” says Mary Myrick.“Some of their books are more than 40 years old. We want to provide up-to-date books that will be interesting to the children, encouraging them to read. Our goal is to provide their library with 1000 books by Christmas,” she added.
Edwards Elementary is located in northeast Oklahoma City at 1123 NE Grand Blvd. Established in 1950, the school was named for Walter J. and Frances Edwards, African American land developers who in 1936 bought 32 acres in the northeastern section of Oklahoma City. There they built more than 800 homes and in 1938, founded the elementary school. For more information about the school visit: http://www.okcps.org/ElementarySchools/.
Established in 1990, Public Strategies (PSI) began as a public relations and event planning firm and has grown into a culturally and professionally diverse firm with 150 staff members, and offices in Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas and Washington, D.C. The company has a solid success record of client-centered project management and strategic planning services for a variety of clients in the public and private sectors. "Our mission at PSI is to make a difference in the lives of others, utilizing public policy, promising practices and research as tools to achieve our goals," said Myrick.
