PSI’s Tactics PSI collaborated with a variety of stakeholders, including representatives from the Oklahoma Departments of Education, Health, Public Safety, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services; police, fire and other emergency service providers; youth and social services agencies; hospitals and universities.
Results In its first year, more than 7,500 young people attended the event. Subsequently, PSI contracted with the state to manage the annual event, producing a total of eight events with an annual attendance of approximately 10,000 students.
PSI served more than 75,000 people through the Governor's Safe School Summit. Event evaluations indicated that the majority of attendees said the event was worthwhile and informative. The Summit accomplished its goal to raise awareness among teenagers regarding the importance of making positive decisions, and understanding the consequences of negative behaviors such as drug and alcohol use. In conjunction with the Summit, PSI provided a Prevention Conference for adults in order to help schools implement a positive action plan in their communities.
